Sunstone is a microcline (or oligoclase) feldspar of igneous origin.
Sunstone is also known as “heliolite” and more commonly “aventurescent feldspar”, as you’ll see flashes of coppery aventurescence within these stones similar to aventurine or labradorite. The coppery aventurescence are inclusions of tiny plates of copper, hematite, or goethite. They are usually aligned parallel to one of the crystallographic planes within the stone.
