Description
Calymene trilobites are a genus of trilobite commonly found in the Silurian period, but also in the Ordovician period.
This fossil would have lived around 489 – 409 million years ago in the oceans. This specimen was found in Morocco, however they are found elsewhere, including the Wenlock Series in the UK.
Trilobites are extinct marine arthropods, and were one of the most successful animals to live in the ocean, having existed for almost 270 million years with more than 22,000 species identified. Trilobites appeared in the fossil record because they have an exoskeleton, which enabled preservation
