Leap Year Magick!

February 27, 2020 0 By Saranne Mallinson

29th February is a rare day and should not be overlooked. As a Liminal day like Samhain, the veil between realms is thin and as a day that occurs only every  four years, this is an exceptionally powerful time to be casting magick. Astrologically, 29th February falls within the sun sign of Pisces, which we know is represented by the fish and ruled by Neptune.

So what kind of magick should you be doing?  The answer is, anything you like!

Use the number four where you can to reflect the leap year. This could be performing your spell at 4am or 4pm, perhaps putting four new things on your altar, or planting four new plants in the garden.

We all know that the 29th February is traditionally a time when women get to propose to their significant other, so maybe this would be a great day to do fertility or love spells!

For correspondences, use those that will be for February.  These can include:

In your supplies box for this month you will probably already have salt, dried herbs, silver coloured tools, altar tiles, and crystal wands. We currently have selenite wands in stock.

You probably want to have some of the following herbs; myrrh, sandalwood, frankincense, pine resin, pine needles, cinnamon, nutmeg, sage, thyme, basil, and patchouli.

The elements for February are those for Imbolc.

For candle magick, use the following colours in your rituals and spells: colours that associate with imbolc and new growth – crocus colours like white and purples, yellows, light greens as well as light blues, browns, and silver.

When using crystals, the crystal correspondences will be clear quartz, rose quartz, amethyst, aquamarine, fluorite, silver, pyrite, garnet, jasper,  bloodstone, turquoise, black tourmaline, onyx, and selenite.
