Lammas

July 27, 2021 0 By Saranne Mallinson

With Lammas just a few days away I thought I would do a little mail out.

Lammas or Lughnasadh
Lammas occurs on on 1st August, although some celebrations happen on 31st July and 2nd August, or more recently the Sunday closest to the 1st. Lammas is an Anglo-Saxon word meaning loaf-mass, or bread, and the most commonly-used name for this sabbat.

This is a time to celebrate the First Harvest; the first grains and the first fruits, but primarily this is a grain festival. Lammas is the first of the three harvest sabbats and a celebration of the Earth’s fertility. Corn, wheat, potatoes and other crops harvested around Lammas are considered fertility plants and can be used within Lammas rituals. I personally use apples too as I have an apple tree in the garden where the apples are ripe around Lammas.

On your Altar: Include ripened wheat or barley ears in any floral decorations, or make a corn doll. You can also bake some Lammas Bread and use it in a protection spell. In the old days, the Lammas bread once baked would be broken into four pieces and placed in each corner of the barn to protect the harvested crops. In your spell you can break the bread into four pieces and place it in the corners of your home instead and work it into your protection spell. I’ll include ripe hedgerow fruit on my altar, and maybe some wild flowers.

Postage pricing

If you are wondering about what I charge for posting, here is a little update:

1) Normal postage is sent by Royal Mail 2nd class signed for.
2) Anything over £30 will still be sent out with free postage. This will continue to be sent 2nd class signed for.
3) We are currently recycling packaging to keep costs down and to be more environmentally friendly, so we will keep doing this. You may get plastic wrapping in your order, but this is just us giving a second life to packaging we have received in. This all helps keep our carbon footprint down, and means we can keep our postage & packaging costs down for customers too.
4) There is a guaranteed delivery option at the checkout if you want your items sooner, or if you just want peace of mind. This is the Royal Mail next day tracked delivery service.
5) I offer a local pickup option, so if you’d rather nip by to pick up your order, or meet me in town for a coffee and a natter, you can select that option at the checkout. This option is free!

New Stock

You may have noticed that I have lots of lovely new items in stock. One of these items is a collaboration with another small business owner in Crawley called Flynn Care. I combined one of my handmade witchy boxes with some of her lovely bath treats. Like all of my creations, there is only one!

I have added lots of new crystals and crystal jewellery to my portfolio (check them out here), and I’m now stocking wax melts. I’m not making them myself yet (maybe I will in the future), but the ones I am stocking are handmade in the UK by a company called Busy Bee Candles Ltd. Each eco-friendly aluminium tin contains 12 mini melts with an average fragrance time of 20 hours per tin.

There is a range of witchy scents and a range of homely scents; including Poison Apple, Fresh Cotton and Spiced Pumpkin (my personal fave!).

I’ve also got in something extra special! I only have one, but it is an exquisite piece of jewellery. This is the Peter Stone Pentagram Cuff Bracelet, in solid 925 hallmarked sterling silver. This will make a statement for the wearer, and will be a talking point in conversation.
